Great Responsibility

 As soon as they donned the badge, Florida sheriffs were responsible for a wide range of duties.  They served as investigators, arresting officers, wardens, and even executioners.  Voters looked to them for leadership and were fiercely supportive of the man or woman they elected to such a prominent office.
