Jefferson County in Memory is dedicated to providing online access to digitized archival resources documenting the history, culture, and people of Jefferson County, Florida. Local families, the Monticello Old Jail Museum, and the State Archives of Florida provided the materials for digitization on this site.
Many of the items focus on law enforcement and Jefferson County’s old jailhouse (1909-1971). Two photographic exhibits – Public Faces and Private Spaces: The Monticello Old Jail Museum and With Great Power: Florida Sheriffs in the Twentieth Century – document the role of the county jail in the community and the responsibilities of the local sheriff.
