One of two cells used for white inmates in Jefferson County.

White inmates usually occupied separate cells like this one and did not serve their time in the main cell block. This cell could hold two inmates while the cells in the main cell block could hold four inmates each.

He served as sheriff of Jefferson County from 1945 to 1949. He died while in office and was succeeded by his wife, Minnie Cooksey.
